SECRETARY GENERAL’S APPOINTMENT PROCESS
The Secretary-General is appointed by the Governing Body for a period of five years on renewable terms. As per the By-Laws, there is technically no limit to the number of five-year terms a Secretary-General may serve. The Secretary General is one of the Office Bearers of ISSME apart from the President, Vice-Presidents and Treasurer.
The By-Laws say that the Governing Body shall bestow the title of Secretary General Emeritus on past Secretary Generals who have rendered extraordinary service in guiding, directing and strengthening the Society and have served a minimum period of 10 years (two consecutive terms) as Secretary General.
Mr. Sunil D Sharma of India, who took office in late 2011, is also the founder President of ISSME.
